I recently had the opportunity to ask Amanda Rose Hall some questions about her fantastic journey as a ballerina. Amanda is an incredible dancer, she graces the stage with pure joy and incredible poise and elegance, her dedication to ballet is unparalleled. Below are her responses.
Q1: When did you start ballet?
I started ballet when i was three years old but it was just for fun. i went to my first competition at 10 and placed 5th place, so after that my parents started to take dance seriously and put me in privates and all that good stuff!
Q2: Where do you currently dance?
I dance at Pembroke ballet! my very own coach is my mom, gypsy hall
Q3: How long have you been en pointe for?
For a lot of people starting pointe young is frowned upon, but i started pointe when i was 6. ofc i wasn’t doing anything too serious, just a couple of pre-pointe classes. my feet are perfectly fine and I’ve never had a chronic injury!!
Q4: What pointe shoes do you currently wear?
I wear Gaynors!! I love them
Q5: How did you first get involved in ballet?
Well, my mom was a professional ballerina in Cuba. she opened her own studio and I remember I just fell in love with the older girls dancing and I would also see my mom perform here and there and I just couldn’t stop dancing!! I remember I used to steal her pointe shoes, that’s why she got me my own pair so young, so I wouldn’t get hurt at home
Q6: What is your favourite variation?
That’s a hard question!! right now my favorites are black swan, pas de esclave variation, and kitri 1st act
Q7: What company would you love to work for?
My dream company ever since I was a little girl was the royal ballet. but as I grow up… it’s sooo far away and my whole family is here in Florida, so I think I want to stay in the US. my favorite companies are San Francisco, Boston, ABT, and Houston ballet
Q8: Do you have a favourite memory/moment in ballet?
My favorite memory/ moment has to be getting my first pair of pointe shoes.
Q9: Who are your ballet roles models? Dancers that inspire you.
My ballet role model is my mom!!! she made it to become an amazing ballerina so I want to follow her footsteps! another idol of mine has to be marianela nunez
Q10: Best advice you’ve ever received from a teacher?
Best advice has to be that you’re biggest competition is yourself. so, work harder everyday trying to improve the dancer you were yesterday
Q11: Classical or romantic tutu?
Definitely classical tutus
Q12: What do you like to do when you aren’t dancing (your free time)?
My free time I spend either sleeping (I go to regular school and then I go straight to dance and come home really late) or just hanging out with friends!
