Q&A With New Zealand Ballerina Honor Christian-Slane

I had the opportunity recently to ask Honor Christian-Slane some questions in regard to her journey as a ballerina. She graces the stage with real presence, joy and beauty, Her dedication and passion for ballet is incredible. Below are her responses.

Q1: When did you start ballet?

I started ballet at age 6

Q2: Where do you currently dance?

New Zealand School of Dance

Q3: How long have you been en pointe for?

I don’t really know, 4-5years?

Q4: What pointe shoes do you currently wear?

Bloch Mirella, 4 XX

Q5: How did you first get involved in ballet?

Barbie, The Nutcracker & Swan Lake

Q6: What is your favourite variation?

Esmeralda or 1st bridesmaid (Don Q)

Q7: What company would you love to work for?

New York City Ballet, English National, anywhere that’s very dancey/expressive

Q8: Do you have a favourite memory/moment in ballet?

When I first stepped on stage after my two ankle surgeries

Q9: Who are your ballet roles models? Dancers that inspire you.

Q10: Best advice you’ve ever received from a teacher?

Don’t waste your money on opportunities that won’t get you anywhere

Classical
