I had the opportunity recently to ask Madeline Coulter some questions in regard to her journey as a ballerina. Madeline is an incredible dancer, she dances with incredible poise, joy and beauty while on stage. Her dedication and passion to ballet is immense. Below are her responses.
Q1: When did you start ballet?
I started ballet when I was three years old
Q2: Where do you currently dance?
I am currently dancing at the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet
Q3: How long have you been en pointe for?
I have been on pointe for almost 6 1/2 years now
Q4: What pointe shoes do you currently wear?
I wear Freed Classic Pros
Q5: How did you first get involved in ballet?
I first got involved in ballet when my mom took me to see the nutcracker, and I was completely awestruck! I started classes the next January.
Q6: What is your favourite variation?
My favorite variation is probably “Fascinatin’ Rhythm” from Balanchine’s “Who Cares?” I love the music and the fun, carefree feelings that come with it!
Q7: What company would you love to work for?
I would love to work for New York City Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, or Miami City Ballet!
Q8: Do you have a favourite memory/moment in ballet?
I would have to say my favorite memory/ moment in ballet is just every time I get to preform on stage! I love the rush of energy and adrenaline that you get and I enjoy just putting myself completely out there for the audience!
Q9: Who are your ballet roles models? Dancers that inspire you.
Some dancers that inspire me are definately Ashley Boulder and Noelani Pantastico!
Q10: Best advice you’ve ever received from a teacher?
The best advice I’ve ever recieved from a teacher is when Stacey Calvert told me that I always sparkle in class and rehearsals, and that I should never let anything take my sparkle away!
Q11: Classical or romantic tutu?
I love classical tutus, but I think I enjoy dancing more in romantic tutus!
Q12: What do you like to do when you aren’t dancing (your free time)?
In my free time my friends and I like to have picnics and be outside and I also call my family back home a lot!
