Q&A With American Ballerina Sophia L

I recently had the opportunity to ask Sophia L some questions in regard to her journey as a ballerina. She is an amazing dancer, she graces the stage with poise and elegance. She is incredibly dedicated and passionate about ballet. Below are her responses.

Q1: When did you start ballet?

I started dancing when I was 4

Q2: Where do you currently dance?

I currently dance a Creative Movement

Q3: How long have you been en pointe for?

I have been on pointe for 3 years almost 4

Q4: What pointe shoes do you currently wear?

I am currently wearing Suffolk Spotlight

Q5: How did you first get involved in ballet?

My parents enrolled me because I was hyper and always moving… I think they just wanted to tire me out

Q6: What is your favourite variation?

My favorite ballet variation is from Don Quixote it is the act 1 Kitri variation

Q7: What company would you love to work for?

I would love to someday work for ABT I was an extra in one of their performances of Sleeping Beauty and I absolutely loved all the dancers and the teacher they were so warm and friendly. I also love their style of teaching and the fact they travel the world. I also went to an ABT summer intensive in NYC

Q8: Do you have a favourite memory/moment in ballet?

My favorite memory was when I found out I got a scholarship to UNCSA it was the first scholarship I was awarded

Q9: Who are your ballet roles models? Dancers that inspire you.

Dancers that inspire me are James Whiteside , Isabella Boylston , Gillian Murphy, Aaron Anker, and Mikaela King

Q10: Best advice you’ve ever received from a teacher?

Best advice was to not compare yourself to others focus on yourself believe in Yourself and work hard

Q11: Classical or romantic tutu?

I love classical tutus from experience I think I look like a cupcake in a romantic tutu

Q12: What do you like to do when you aren’t dancing (your free time)?

I don’t have much free time because of my busy schedule I am in many advanced classes in school and I am about to start the International Baccalaureate program in school. But when I do find free time I’m either painting, drawing, playing my viola, listening to music, hanging with friends, shopping, cooking, or watching movies.
