Q&A With Canadian Ballerina Sophia Zonni

I recently had the opportunity to ask Sophia Zonni some questions about her journey as a ballerina. Sophia is an incredible dancer, she graces the stage so beautifully with phenomenal technique, her passion and dedication for ballet is amazing. Below are her responses.

Q1: When did you start ballet?

I started creative dance when I was 3

Q2: Where do you currently dance?

Currently dance at Ellison ballet

Q3: How long have you been en pointe for?

Started pointe at 10

Q4: What pointe shoes do you currently wear?

I wear Gaynor Mindens and was picked as an official GM girl for 2017/18

Q5: How did you first get involved in ballet?

I started taking more ballet at 7/8

Q6: What is your favourite variation?

I like Giselle, Kitri, odette, grand pas classique

Q7: What company would you love to work for?

Would love to work for the Mariinsky ballet, Royal Ballet, Paris opera or ABT

Q8: Do you have a favourite memory/moment in ballet?

My first YAGP

Q9: Who are your ballet roles models? Dancers that inspire you.

My favorite ballerinas are Svetlana Zakharova, Joy Womack and Natalia Osipova

Q10: Best advice you’ve ever received from a teacher?

it’s about quality and not quantity

Q11: Classical or romantic tutu?

Classical

Q12: What do you like to do when you aren’t dancing (your free time)?

I try to play the violin and knit, I also love cooking and I hit the gym to cross train, Then lots of homework too.  You need to be an educated ballerina 😂😂 I’m also from Toronto Canada so I also hang out with my friends from the city and just be a kid.
