Q&A With Australian Ballerina Chloe Beckinsale

I recently had the chance to ask Chloe Beckinsale some questions about her journey as a ballerina. Chloe is an amazing dancer, she graces the stage so elegantly and with poise and strength. Her dedication and passion for ballet is phenomenal. Below are her responses.

Q1: When did you start ballet?

I’m 18 years old, I started dancing at the age of 4 and I started full time ballet training at the age of 14!

Q2: Where do you currently dance?

I dance in the Elite full time program at Melbourne City Ballet in Australia, and I’m doing summer school at Oklahoma City Ballet in the USA this year.

Q3: How long have you been en pointe for?

I went on pointe at the age of 12, so 6 years now.

Q4: What pointe shoes do you currently wear?

For a while now I have been wearing Brava by Energetiks!

Q5: How did you first get involved in ballet?

I couldn’t be kept still as a child so I was put in dance classes, and from there my love just grew but I specifically loved the whole concept of ballet, not ever being able to be perfect and always finding something to do better! I love being able to tell a story through movements and using my body.

Q6: What is your favourite variation?

To perform, I love dancing one of the Raymonda act 3 variations. However I love watching the aurora wedding solo, kitri variation and giselle act 1.

Q7: What company would you love to work for?

My ultimate goal is New York City Ballet! However companies that I would love to be in are Oklahoma City Ballet, Anaheim Ballet, Pacific North West Ballet or Boston Ballet.

Q8: Do you have a favourite memory/moment in ballet?

I think being accepted in to summer school has been my favourite memory  so far, it felt really great to read that letter.

Q9: Who are your ballet roles models? Dancers that inspire you.

Just like everyone, I adore Zhakarova, however my favourite Australian dancers are Benedicte Bemet from the Australian ballet and Ariana Hond, Emma Cheeseman, Isabella Gemmel-Morgan and Danielle Whitfort from Melbourne City Ballet Company. I really love being at a school attached to a company because I’m surrounded by so many amazing dancers who I can watch and follow in the footsteps of.

Q10: Best advice you’ve ever received from a teacher?

To always stay positive, no matter the situation. And to ALWAYS be and stay humble.

Q11: Classical or romantic tutu?

I love romantic tutus.

Q12: What do you like to do when you aren’t dancing (your free time)?

I love baking, reading and skincare and makeup.
