Q&A With Israeli Ballerina Amit Ben-Aharon

I had the chance recently to ask Amit Ben-Aharon some questions about her journey as a ballerina. Amit is an amazing dancer, she graces the stage with poise and elegance. Her passion for ballet is incredible. Below are her responses.

Q1: When did you start ballet?

I started dancing ballet when I was about 4 years old.

Q2: Where do you currently dance?

I currently dance at Thelma Yellin High School of Arts in Israel.

Q3: How long have you been en pointe for?

I’ve been en pointe since age of 13 (= 7th grade, now I’m in 11th grade)

Q4: What pointe shoes do you currently wear?

I currently wear Grishko brand pointe shoes.

Q5: How did you first get involved in ballet?

I loved watching ballet and listening to classical music ever since I can remember myself. My mom really loves ballet and used to play me classical music when I was little, eventually sent me to a ballet class and the rest is history 😊

Q6: What is your favourite variation?

That’s definitely a hard question, one of my most favorite and a variation I currently am working on is the first variation from the pa de trois- swan lake- act 1. Another of my favorite variations would be the wedding variation from sleeping beauty.

Q7: What company would you love to work for?

My dream company have always been the ABT but I would love working for any ballet company 🙂

Q8: Do you have a favourite memory/moment in ballet?

I have to say I love every moment and memories from my ballet experience, even the tough moments. I can’t think of one but I guess my favorite is the moment on stage in-front of the audience. Hearing the applause is definitely the best part.

Q9: Who are your ballet roles models? Dancers that inspire you.

My ballet roles models would be first of all my two amazing ballet teachers. The journey they have been through and the values they built in me inspire me so much and stay with me all the time. Also I find a lot of inspiration from Gisele Beathea, who dances now with the ABT, in my point of view she represents the impossible and how you can reach every goal you have if you only believe and put all of your hard work and devotion in to it.

Q10: Best advice you’ve ever received from a teacher?

WOW, another hard one hahaha… Well I guess the best advice I was given from my ballet teacher would be to always remember that it’s all in my hands and I can make the change if i only believe. My teacher taught me to always keep going, even if it seems impossible and hard, as well as dealing with criticism, which affects me “in real life” a lot as well.

Q11: Classical or romantic tutu?

Oh! I love both so much! But I think I’m gonna stick with classical since it was my biggest dream wearing a really fancy one since I was little! 😅🤗

Q12: What do you like to do when you aren’t dancing (your free time)?

Well I really like to bake, I find it so peaceful and relaxing! I also really like hanging out with friends, especially to go and eat with them in some really fancy restaurants hahahah (dancers are the biggest food lovers!!)
