I had a chance recently to ask Saskia S some questions about her wonderful journey as a ballerina. Saskia is an incredible dancer, she takes to the stage with great poise and elegance. Her passion and dedication for ballet is unmatched. Below are her responses.
Q1: When did you start ballet?
When I was 11 years old.
Q2: Where do you currently dance?
At full time ballet school in Australia.
Q3: How long have you been en pointe for?
About a year and a half now
Q4: What pointe shoes do you currently wear?
Grishko 2007
Q5: How did you first get involved in ballet?
I fell in love with ballet at the age of 4, watching barbie nutcracker. I knew from then on that’s how I wanted to spend the rest of my life.
Q6: What is your favourite variation?
Currently Girlfriends in Don Quixote Act 1
Q7: What company would you love to work for?
I love the Dutch National Ballet but realistically, I’d be thrilled to work with any European company willing to take me.
Q8: Do you have a favourite memory/moment in ballet?
I love the feeling when things just work out, when you feel on top of everything and know for even a split second, that there’s nowhere else you’d rather be
Q9: Who are your ballet roles models? Dancers that inspire you.
Michaela DePrince, Misty Copeland, Sylvia Guillem, Marianela Núñez, I could go on and on…
Q10: Best advice you’ve ever received from a teacher?
Focus on the present, the best you can do here and now, in this moment and don’t worry about the outcome.
Q11: Classical or romantic tutu?
I love both classic and romantic tutus in different ways.
Q12: What do you like to do when you aren’t dancing (your free time)?
Hah! Spare time. The little I have of it I like to read and write, listen to music and spend time with friends and family.
