Q&A With American Ballerina Ava Ownby

I had the opportunity to ask Ava Ownby some questions about her journey as a ballerina. Ava is an excellent dancer, she graces the stage with poise and grace. Her dedication and passion for ballet is incredible. Below are her responses.

Q1: When did you start ballet?

I started recreational combo classes at the age of 4 then moved to a company attached ballet school at the age of 6

Q2: Where do you currently dance?

I want to leave this one blank because I’m in the process of switching studios and I haven’t made this information public yet

Q3: How long have you been en pointe for?

I have been en pointe for 3 years

Q4: What pointe shoes do you currently wear?

I currently wear grishko 2007 and custom wear moi

Q5: How did you first get involved in ballet?

After 2 years at a dance school that had all styles of dance, my mom asked me which one I liked best. I said that I loved ballet so she found a ballet school for me to go to.

Q6: What is your favourite variation?

My favorite variation is Nikiyas death.

Q7: What company would you love to work for?

I would love to work for the mariinsky theatre.

Q8: Do you have a favourite memory/moment in ballet?

My favorite moment in ballet was when I go my first pointe shoes. They were grishko nova.

Q9: Who are your ballet roles models? Dancers that inspire you.

Dancers who inspire me are Natalia ospiova and Kristina shapran. I also love Wendy Whelan because she also has scoliosis.

Q10: Best advice you’ve ever received from a teacher?

The best advice I’ve received from a teacher was when they showed me how to use the proper turnout muscles. This helped change all of my dancing.

Q11: Classical or romantic tutu?

I love romantic tutus.

Q12: What do you like to do when you aren’t dancing (your free time)?

When I am not dancing I love to have photoshoots and go shopping!
