Q&A With American Ballerina Maddy Harpole

I recently had the chance to ask Maddy Harpole some questions about her journey as a ballerina. Maddy is an excelletn dancer, she takes to the stage with incredible poise and elegance, her passion and love for ballet is amazing. Below are her responses.

Q1: When did you start ballet?

I started ballet at the age of 3 (I’m currently 15) and have been dancing for 12.5 years.

Q2: Where do you currently dance?

The Rock School for Dance Education

Q3: How long have you been en pointe for?

I started dancing on pointe at age 9 and will be starting my 6th year of pointe in the fall.

Q4: What pointe shoes do you currently wear?

Bloch Heritage

Q5: How did you first get involved in ballet?

I was put in ballet at a young age just for the fun of it, but I started to take it more seriously around 10/11 years old.

Q6: What is your favourite variation?

I love all variations for being unique and beautiful but one of my favorites is Giselle act 1!

Q7: What company would you love to work for?

My dream company is ABT, but I would love to go anywhere that is willing to take me!

Q8: Do you have a favourite memory/moment in ballet?

My first summer intensive audition at age 11 because I was so inspired by all of the ballerinas surrounding me!

Q9: Who are your ballet roles models? Dancers that inspire you.

I love watching Isabella Boylston (of ABT) because you can see her passion on stage as she performs!

Q10: Best advice you’ve ever received from a teacher?

The best advice I have received is to really put yourself out there and to show what you have because people in auditions want to see what your capable of!

Q11: Classical or romantic tutu?

Both! Each of them are beautiful in there own way!

Q12: What do you like to do when you aren’t dancing (your free time)?

I love to watch movies, go for walks, and do a bunch of art project like painting or embroidery!
