I recently had the chance to ask Brayley some questions about her journey as a ballerina. Brayley is an incredible dancer, she takes to the stage with amazing beauty and grace. Her passion for ballet is incredible. Below are her responses.
Q1: When did you start ballet?
I started ballet when I was twelve years old but started dancing at three
Q2: Where do you currently dance?
I currently dance at Ballet West Academy and I am in the Professional training division
Q3: How long have you been en pointe for?
I have been on pointe for six years
Q4: What pointe shoes do you currently wear?
I currently wear Bloch Heritages
Q5: How did you first get involved in ballet?
Through competition dance, I worked in a lyrical solo with a professional ballet dancer and I fell in love
Q6: What is your favourite variation?
This is a tough question I have a lot of favorites I think I will go with white swan
Q7: What company would you love to work for?
I would love to work for Ballet West or Alberta Ballet
Q8: Do you have a favourite memory/moment in ballet?
Taking a bow after my first variation on stage
Q9: Who are your ballet roles models? Dancers that inspire you.
Sarah Lamb, Beckanne Sisk, Sylvie Guillem, and Skylar Brandt
Q10: Best advice you’ve ever received from a teacher?
Perform in class how would perform on stage
Q11: Advise you’d give a young version of yourself?
Don’t compare yourself to others who have been dancing longer
Q12: Best thing about being a ballerina?
Getting on stage and performing something you have worked very hard on
Q13: Hardest thing about being a ballerina?
Keeping positive even on days when I feel like I am not at my best
Q14: It seems like such hard work, did you ever have days growing up where you were like “ugh maybe I’ll just pick an easier career so I can be like a normal teenager”?
There have been days where I felt that but it’s almost always out of my mind when I remember the feeling of being onstage
Q15: Classical or romantic tutu?
Classical tutu. Definitely
Q16: Have you ever suffered a serious injury?
Yes one time I almost tore a tendon and was in a boot for six weeks
Q17: What do you like to do when you aren’t dancing (your free time)?
I like to read and Bake as well as watching my favorite shows on Netflix
