Q&A With American Ballerina Aurora Chinchilla

I had an opportunity recently to ask Aurora Chinchilla some questions about her journey as a ballerina. Aurora is an amazing dancer, she takes to the stage with incredible poise and grace. Her passion for ballet is fantastic. Below are her responses.

Q1: When did you start ballet?

I started ballet when I was 3, but I really committed to it when I was 10

Q2: Where do you currently dance?

I currently dance at Boca Ballet Theater @bocaballettheater

Q3: How long have you been en pointe for?

I have been on pointe for 4 years

Q4: What pointe shoes do you currently wear?

I currently wear @freedoflondon maker shoes

Q5: How did you first get involved in ballet?

My mom put me and my sister in ballet classes when we were little. But I ended up loving it and continued to dance

Q6: What is your favourite variation?

There are so many wonderful variations! My top 3 favorite variations would be Gisselle Act 1, Paquita Etoile, or Satanelia

Q7: What company would you love to work for?

My favorite companies I would love to work for would be ABT or Royal Ballet

Q8: Do you have a favourite memory/moment in ballet?

I have so many wonderful memories! My favorite memories are performing and meeting so many professional ballet dancers from many successful companies

Q9: Who are your ballet roles models? Dancers that inspire you.

There are so many inspiring ballerinas that I love! A few of my role models are: @cassieperlt @marianelanunezofficial @frankiegoeshayward @yasmine_naghdi

Q10: Best advice you’ve ever received from a teacher?

“There is no such thing as perfection, but we can strive to be close to perfect”

Q11: Advise you’d give a young version of yourself?

Don’t compare yourself to others if it makes you forget why you love what you do

Q12: Best thing about being a ballerina?

Being able to express feeling through movement and working hard to be the best

Q13: Hardest thing about being a ballerina?

Having to miss out on family events and moments with them can be really tough at times for me.

Q14: It seems like such hard work, did you ever have days growing up where you were like “ugh maybe I’ll just pick an easier career so I can be like a normal teenager”?

There were times I doubted myself because I didn’t feel good enough. However, I just remind myself why I started ballet and why I love it and it keeps me going

Q15: Classical or romantic tutu?

Classical tutus 100%

Q16: Have you ever suffered a serious injury?

Thankfully I have not had any serious injuries.😌

Q17: What do you like to do when you aren’t dancing (your free time)?

When I am not dancing I have to do school… but I am almost always outside or at the beach in my free time.
