Q&A With Australian Dancer Grace Wheller

I recently had the opportunity to ask Grace Wheller some questions about her expereience as a dancer and more specifically as a ballet dancer. She is incredibly passionate and dedicated to dance. Below are her responses.

Q1: When did you start ballet?

I started Ballet when I was around 10 but I had been dancing other styles since I was about 5.

Q2: Where do you currently dance?

I currently dance at Michelle Rae School of Dance

Q3: How long have you been en pointe for?

I think I have been en pointe for about 4-5 years (but I don’t do a lot of it haha)

Q4: What pointe shoes do you currently wear?

My pointe shoes at the moment are the Bloch Heritage Pointe shoes (I love them)

Q5: How did you first get involved in ballet?

I first got involved in Ballet at my studio, I really wanted to do more classes and I saw everyone else really enjoying ballet so I thought I would give it a go too.

Q6: What is your favourite variation?

I don’t have a particular favourite variation as I don’t do a whole lot of Ballet

Q7: What company would you love to work for?

There isn’t a specific ballet company I would love to work for but there’s a lot of things I would love to do as a jazz dancer.

Q8: Do you have a favourite memory/moment in ballet?

My favourite memory in Ballet is probably dancing on stage with my cousin. It was one of my first times doing pointe on stage and we had some really challenging turns but it was lots of fun.

Q9: Who are your ballet roles models? Dancers that inspire you.

I think my teachers are my biggest role models as I’ve learnt so much from them

Q10: Best advice you’ve ever received from a teacher?

I can’t think of one specific piece of advice that a teacher has given me. I like to take all of the little things that all of my teachers have given me. Probably just to trust yourself and your journey and don’t compare yourself to anyone else

Q11: Classical or romantic tutu?

Classical to wear but I love looking at romantic on stage

Q12: What do you like to do when you aren’t dancing (your free time)?

When I’m not dancing I love to just hang out with my friends, be outdoors walking and swimming and adventuring mainly.
